Acceptable ?

When you were a child, did you Mother or Father ever have to say to you,"That kind of talk or attitude is just not acceptable!" Maybe you have had to say that to your child.

Have you ever had your mouth washed out with soap or had to do that to your child. That cleansing is not fun!

In today's world, I am dismayed by the language that is used everyday both by the young and the old. I also realize that there is very little difference between the language of this world and the language of those who profess Christ! The use of profanity in every other sentence is so prevalent. It has become so common place that no one even blinks. Certain words are used to describe even the most special things...for example "A New Year" etc.! The very life and blessings that the Lord bestows so freely on us, we often curse.

Why? How did we let these words creep into our everyday language?  What has happened to integrity? What has happened to our respect and our shame at speaking such words.

I am reminded of the Scripture, I learned as a child. Psalm 19:14 which says:

"Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in Thy sight, O Lord, my Strength and my Redeemer."

What are you speaking? What are you thinking? Is it your prayer that your very words and thoughts would be acceptable to your Redeemer? Do you want to be different from this world? Do you want to be an example of pleasing Christ?

Let's make this verse our prayer every day!
